Why this variety: The “Whitegold” cherry tree is a rare and incredible tasting cherry. It was developed in Geneva, New York around 1975 by cross pollinating Emperor Francis with Stella. Only one of the seedlings grown turned out to have to beautiful golden blush sweet cherries and it is a delight in the garden! From its fragrant creamy floral show in spring to the delicious eye-catching fresh fruit in summer.
The fruit is resistant to cracking and the tree is resistant to bacterial canker, cherry leaf spot, brown rot, and black rot.
Whitegold Cherry trees grow great in zones 5-7. We added this variety as the zoning map have changed and we in Blaine have now shifted to a zone 5.
Current plant size: 3/4” trunk diameter (5-7 feet tall with good branching in a 5-gallon nursery pot)
